Throughout the streets, from the roads along the West Lake to the banks of the To Lich River, from Trich Sai to Nguyen Dinh Thi to Thanh Nien, Nguyen Van Huyen, three species of flowers are blooming, creating a vivid picture of nature in the heart of the city: the bright red of the poinciana, the golden yellow of the canary, and the gentle purple of the magnolia. All are intertwined, turning familiar street corners into unforgettable scenes.
Sharing the same color as the Royal Poinciana, the Royal Canary is in full bloom on many streets of the Capital. The flower that is likened to the “golden rain” every summer belongs to the Vang subfamily of the Dau family, also known by other names such as queen cassia, yellow scorpion or yellow Osaka. The flowers grow in large clusters, 25 to 40 cm long, each flower has five thin, light oval petals, covered with a layer of velvety hair, fluttering in the light breeze. The bright yellow color stands out in the summer sun, both gentle and full of energy, making many street corners of the Capital suddenly become more poetic and charming than usual. As a woody species with a light scent, cassia is also popular as a shade tree and creates urban landscapes, contributing to the greenness and vitality of the city’s roads.
Hanoi is loved by many people by the affectionate name “the city of 12 flower seasons”. With each passing season, the streets take on a different color scheme — sometimes gentle with April lilies, sometimes passionate with June lotus flowers, sometimes sweet with the scent of autumn milk flowers. And in these early days of summer, the red color of the phoenix and the shiny yellow color of the canary tuberose are adding fresh, radiant features to the landscape of the Capital – alongside the dreamy, romantic purple color of the masculinium that is blooming on many streets.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life, the flower seasons still quietly return, making Hanoi gentle and full of vitality in a very unique way. The streets filled with red and yellow colors not only decorate the city landscape but also bring an indescribable feeling of peace and romance – a feeling that can only be found where nature and the city blend together so naturally. And then, when the May flower season passes, in the memories of Hanoians and tourists from far away, there remains the image of a radiant Capital under the summer sun – where every flower season is a time when the city reminds people that beauty sometimes just needs to look up to see.
