6 tips for eating well in Japan

Famous Japanese restaurants often get faster than tickets to see Taylor Swift. Popular noodles line up longer than the entrance to Disneyland games. These locations are often crowded as they are praised in Tiktok or have won many awards around the world. There’s a reason for the compliment, but many other places are just as great.

Therefore, if you are planning a trip to Japan, you should pay attention to the following tips to get a delicious meal without worrying.

I know where to go

Find restaurants using Tabelog. Google is easy to search, but its reviews are often messy. In many places, Japanese people mark three stars, while Americans give five or one star. Tabelog is primarily intended for locals, so listen. Japanese 4-star reviews are considered a sign of a great restaurant.

Many people want to try many refined seasonal traditional meals (Kaiseki) made as culinary ballets. This food is served if the visitors stay at the traditional accommodation (Ryokan). Therefore, if you are going out to eat outside, choose other forms such as Teppanyaki.

Spend along with sushi to enjoy in the coastal city for freshness.

Don’t offend if some restaurants reject foreign guests. That’s because the owner wants to interact with the guests, jokingly build a relationship. Language may be a barrier at the time. Many places have indications that “there are no foreign guests,” but in addition to that, the Japanese line is often added, “If you read this line, come in.” You’re welcome anywhere, even if you only know a few Japanese words, such as Oishi Desu (the dish is tasty).

Dinner set

If you are aiming for a specific location, set up the table as soon as possible.

Additionally, if you book a hotel, you can ask them to make a reservation at the restaurant, such as sitting at the sushi counter. Thanks to friends in Japan, asking for an appointment is a good option, just like hiring a guide. Sometimes they suggest some places where you can’t find yourself.

They also select foreigners who have lived in Japan for many years and speak Japanese fluently. They narrow the cultural gap between tourists and indigenous peoples.

Convenience stores seem very magical

There are all the convenient shops, also known as conbini in Japan. Enjoy delicious egg salad bread all day long at Lawson or 7-Eleven. FamilyMart is also a shopping place with high quality useful items.

The yen is record low and skips convenience stores rather than going to a big store. Shopping at Conbini is also very good. Even some stores have more basic items every day than Uniqlo. If you want to prioritize fast, orthodox, cheap foods, try Daianda in Kyoto. These family-style restaurants often have a fixed menu at a low price. For example, the meal includes cocolaya tempura and sashimi. The cost is approximately USD 6 (approximately 150,000 VND).

Avoid rarment wraps

Someone said, “Eating a bowl of ramen noodles is definitely worth two hours.

Don’t line up for 100 people at Honke Daichi Asahi, a famous restaurant in Kyoto or Chukasoba Jinza Hachigou in Tokyo. The ramen bowls are so tasty that you have to give an afternoon to explore the city. Instead, try places that are not advertised. Delicious ramen is found all over Japan.

Some basic rules of conduct

In Japan, customers are not always true. There are two social commitments in Japan. The diner expects the restaurant owner to be friendly and the owner expects the customers to behave with a certain level of politeness.

Punctuality is an important factor. In Japanese society, simple delays are not acceptable.

Speaking loudly and taking selfies is also a big error. This tip can be seen as rude and unwanted alms for those who are proud of their work.

Trust the quality of Japanese cuisine

The standard for quality of Japanese cuisine is far superior to most other parts of the world. As a result, few tourists are disappointed with Japanese cuisine.

With that idea, try your adventure and choose a strange place that is mistakenly unknown. If you can’t book a table at a famous restaurant Star Michelin or ramen, it’s really okay. Let’s be surprised. A feeling of accidentally discovering a very interesting restaurant.
